Judy became the very public face of A Course in Miracles in the late ‘70s. She personally introduced it to thousands of people in events around the country. She told a compelling story of how ACIM had been scribed by Helen with connection and support from Bill, how miraculously it came to Helen word for word just as it was printed, and how the whole copying, distributing, and then publishing of it was one miracle after another. She told how she at first had to “xerox” copy after copy to give to people who were interested and how there was no way she could keep up with the demand for early copies. She talked about how the money to professionally publish was miraculously received. The story seemed almost too good to be true.
This song, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" in my mind, that's part of what it was about. We recognize all the struggles that have happened in this world that we are in, but those struggles can be shifted and seen differently when we allow other's voices to come through. We allow those voices to come in a way that they are an opportunity to experience the healing, the opportunity to experience the light, the opportunity to experience the love.
That's what I experienced that weekend, especially in that diversity and inclusion group, just to see it, just to hear it blew me away. It blew me away to hear individuals get that deep about what was going on with them and to share it in front of so many people. That's because of removing potential blocks and creating that space to let them know it is okay to allow their voice, not just my voice, but their voice, every single one of our voices to come through. Then A Course In Miracles tells us this, "Direct communication was broken because you had made another voice through another will. The Holy Spirit calls you both to remember and to forget." (OrEd.Tx.5.22)

"There is no choice in this because only you can be the foundation of God's church. A church is where an altar is, and the presence of the altar is what makes it a church. Any church which does not inspire love has a hidden altar which is not serving the purpose for which God intended it. I must found His church on you because you who accept me as a model are literally my disciples." (OrEd.Tx.6.12)

A Course in Miracles says, "Your brothers are everywhere. You do not have to seek far for salvation." (OrEd.Tx.9.38) I think simply intermingling with our brothers, sisters, and others is very healing. It's actually salvation. A Course in Miracles is sometimes described as salvation through relationships, and I think that's an accurate description of the A Course in Miracles process. A Course in Miracles is telling us to connect, to join, and to not isolate. Rejoice with our sisters, brothers, and others. That's what I see happening. I think it's great because as I said, I love people. Don't we all love people?
People, don't you love 'em? I love 'em. I noticed that as I continue on with my practice of A Course in Miracles, that I see everybody as a very, very, dear friend. I feel love for the people that I meet and for the people that I see. That resonates in an A Course in Miracles teaching, that says, "I will recognize in everyone my dearest Friend." (OrEd.WkBk.60.4) I feel that. I've moved tremendously in that direction over the many years of my study and practice of A Course in Miracles.
Regardless of the fact that it still seemed very polarized, I did feel that people were looking at this a little differently. There was more openness to the other point of view than I have seen before. Maybe two plus years of the pandemic has changed people a bit. Perhaps we realize a little more that we don't know everything. A Course in Miracles says, "Whenever anyone can listen fairly to both sides of any issue, he will make the right decision. This is because he has the answer. Conflict can seem to be interpersonal, but it must be intrapersonal first." (OrEd.Tx.7.12) That was in the reading read earlier.
People forget this statement from A Course in Miracles. It's a real call to listen fairly. That's an important adverb there, "fairly." Listen fairly to both sides of big issues like this. "Yes," this applies to us A Course in Miracles students too. We need to be able to listen fairly to both sides of the question. This means the abortion question, or the Covid question, or the vaccination question, or the free speech question, ... or any of those big societal questions. We need to be able to listen fairly. What do we mean by "fairly?" Well, at the least that means we need to be able to listen and not react with anger, and fear, and attack.
I'm sure all of the people who have asked us for healing help, who are on our prayer / healing list, from time to time, are dealing with the fear of their situation. They're reaching out in faith to the Community Miracle Center's, Healing Team. They're reaching out in faith to join with us, and to join with the healers at the CMC, as a way of letting go of the fear, and overcoming the fear, because we are all people of faith. They have faith that their fear can be overcome.
A Course in Miracles has a very powerful Workbook lesson. It was in today's reading. It's a very early lesson; it's a very short lesson. Very simple. "There is nothing to fear." "There is nothing to fear." (OrEd.WkBk.48) I love that lesson because of the simplicity that it calls us to, in the practice of the lesson, which is just repeat it a lot. Repeat it a lot! We A Course in Miracles students should be reminding ourselves all the time that there actually is nothing to fear, regardless of how it seems. Regardless of the seeming reality that appears in front of our eyes, it is just an appearance. It's just an illusion, as the Course says. There is nothing to it, and there really is nothing to fear.
